WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MONTHLY MEETING AT ALLENTON
The motto at the monthly meeting of the Allenton Women’s Institute yesterday was “Of all the things you wear the most important is your expression* and that costs nothing.” Mrs Noble, a vice-president, presided over a fair attendance.
A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs G. Willers, and with Mesdames A. Corbitt, L. Cooper and G. Campbell, who had suffered bereavement, was carried in silence. A letter of cheer was directed to be sent to Mrs Scott. -
It was agreed to forward ginger biscuits to soldiers in hospital. A donation was made lo the Crippled Children Society. An interesting and full report on the recent Dominion conference in Wellington was giyen by Mrs G. Argyle. A demonstration on mat-making was given by Mrs Hopwood, who had a large number of finished articles on display. Both Mrs Argyle and Mrs Hopwood were accorded a vote of thanks.
Competitions resulted: Truss, Mrs K. Vartha I; small bloom, Storey 1; bulbs in fibre, Mrs G. Hale 1, Mrs J. M. McElliinney 2, Mrs H. Greaves 3; posy bowl, Miss R. Douglas 1, Mrs McElliinney 2, Mrs Storey 3; biscuits, Mrs Greaves 1, Mrs Clucas 2, Mrs McElhinney; S« The hostesses were Mesdames Hooper and Clucas.
