WAR FOOTING IN 24 HOURS
U.S. Prepares Plans WASHINGTON, August 25. A gigantic network of industrial plants is being mobilised by the Army and Navy Munitions Board ready to convert the United States to a war footing within 24 hours. Reliable sources report that the Board is speeding plans for a tightly integrated system of giving the nation a virtual push-but-ton mobilisation in the event of wa r.
The programme is the result of repeated warnings from military sources that, if there is another war, the United States would be hit suddenly. Full war production under the plan will be achievable in days instead of months. Standby plants could begin to roll within a few hours.
