BRITISH MEAT MISSION

WARNING TO ARGENTINA (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 1.55 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 23. The negotiations being conducted by the British meat mission in Buenos Aires, are, according to the “New York Times,” proceeding so unfavourably that the mission has warned the Argentine Government that it will leave the country within 24 hours unless the negotiations take a turn for the better, states the “Daily Telegraph.” Britain specifically demanded a reply to her proposal for a foui’-year contract and, after a week’s delay, is still awaiting an answer. The British-Argentine commei'cial treaty of 1936 has expired, and British sources assert that Argentina is taking advantage of the world crisis to demand a 200 per cent increase in prices. The mission had proposed that it would take the entire Argentine meat surplus for two years at a_ somewhat higher price than the present figure, and fixed the amount for two more years.
