fßec. 10.30) CANBERRA, This Day. The Governor-General, the Duke of Gloucester, will leave Australia on his return to England toward the end of January next year. The Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley, said thjs would be done at the request of the King so that the Duke may see his Majesty before he leaves for South Africa; and during the King’s absence act as a Councillor of State. . Mr Chifley said that when the Duke was appointed Governor-General, it was understood his tenure of office would be about two years. The Duke would have held office for two years on January 30 next.
