DUTCH OFFICIALS RESIGN
JAVA ADMINISTRATION (Rec. 9.30) BATAVIA, Dec. 18. ' A British-Indian column lost one killed and three wounded when it met Indonesian resistance outside Buitenzorg, says a British announcement. i .
It is ofiicially announced that MajorGeneral van Straten, head of the Netherlands Indies Civil Administration, and Dr. C. H. van der Plas, chief Dutch political adviser to General Sir Philip Christison have resigned.
Previously the resignations were announced of two other prominent civil servants, Mr H. J. Spitt, vicepresident of the Council of the Indies and former director of the Department of Justice and Mr G. F. de Bruyn Kope, a member of the Council of the Indies and former Director of Finance. No special reason is assigned for the resignations, but Dr. H. van: Mook (Dutch Governor) in a recent speech made mention of “this altered world requiring new and youthful men.”
