FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Dec. 19, 1895). Boxing Day Sports.—The entries for the Ashburton Caledonian Society’s annual gathering on Boxing Day are by far the best yet received for any gathering by the Society, both in numbers and excellence of men. Entries have been received from Christchurch, Wellington, Akaroa, Geraldine, Southbridge and Dunsandel.
TWENTY-FIVE years ago (-From the “Guardian,” Dec. 19, 1920). Building Trade. —Ashburton builders still decline to be optimistic of a speedy alleviation of present conditions in the building trade. Far from seeing signs of a fall in prices, local firms report this morning a recent rise in the price of all hardware goods,, including incidentals such as locks, etc.
