NORTHERN COALFIELDS SLIGHT EASING IN POWER RESTRICTIONS. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Figures of the total coal production yesterday are not available, but the miners on the northern coalfields are believed to have established a record output, for the first day’s operation after the stoppage.
Coal trains began to move into Newcastle yesterday morning, and by noon the lines were crowded with laden trains. By the afternoon 12,000 tons had been delivered to the waterfront, where ships were waiting to go under the cranes.
A minimum output of 150,000 tons is expected this week. The only easing of the power restrictions in New South Wales granted so far is that electric irons may be used for one hour on two days a week, and churches may he lighted for evening services.
There is a prospect of housewives being permitted to use power to cook the family Christmas dinner.
