ASHBURTON SILVER BAND The solo contests of the Ashburton Silver Band were held in the Foresters’ Hall, on Saturday, when there was. a large attendance of the public. The judge. Air W. Stevenson of the Woolslon Rand, was impressed with the high standard and good tone of the playing generally. He made special reference to the standard attained by the winner of the senior A grade section, J. Ibell. Mr Stevenson gave competitors helpful advice on how to correct their faults. Results were as follows:—Senior: A grade—J. Ibell (cornet) 92 points, 1, ,T. Davidson (euphonium) S 7 points, 2
