COMMERCIAL
MARKET AT ASHBURTON. Following the few days of favourable weather several lines of seed wheat have been taken by farmers, report the Ashburton grain, seed and produce merchants this week. Very few lines of milling wheat are coming forward, indicating that the bulk of the crop has been marketed. Millers are stilt buying Garton oats at the fixed price of its 8d a bushel to the grower, but the North Island market appears to be well supplied. Oatsheaf chaff is still difficult to sell, as most lines offering will not pass the grade. . There has been a better inquiry for certified Italian ryegrass during the last few days, and several sales of high - germinating lines have been reported. Lower testing lines are still difficult to sell. The market for cocksfoot is still quiet, and sales are difficult to make. Both red and white clover seed are in strong demand, and high prices are being paid for export quality seed. A strong demand still exists for all lines of seed and table potatoes, but supplies are short. Other markets are unchanged. # Range of Prices. The range of prices is as follows, all on trucks at country stations, sacks extra, unless otherwise stated: Wheat —Tuscan 6s 10M per -bushel, Hunters 7s OJd, Velvet 7s 2Jd (ali f.0.b.). Oats —“A” Gartons, 3s 8d per bushel; Algerians, 4s 3d to 6s; Duns, 6s to 6s 6d. Lupins—F.a.q., 6s per bushel. Barley—Chevalier, 6s 2d per bushel (stook threshed); 6s 6d per bushel (stack threshed). Chaff—G.b.o.s., £6 10s per ton. and whites £9 10s per toil, Sutton’s £lO, all f.o.b.s.i. The Egg Market. The buying price for hen and duck eggs this week is Is 8d a dozen, and the retail price is Is 7d,
