ST. JAMES THEATRE.

CURRENT FILMS

Universal’s fun and spook show, “Ghost Catchers,” is one of the features showing at the St. James Theatre to-night and on Friday at matinee and night sessions. Olsen and Johnson, appearing as themselves, run a night club along the lines of Bedlam Institute, and become involved in a Sir Galahad scheme to save two beautiful young girls, Martha O’Driscoll and Gloria Jean, from whatever fate menaces young girls who live in a hounted house. Before this is accomplished there are a murder or two, screams, gunfire, songs by Ella Mae Morse, songs by Morton Downey, a vaudeville show, a riot in a night club, and a Gay 90’s ‘‘wild party.” All this plus a concert appearance of Gloria Jean at Carnegie Hall, and other ingredients which make bright entertainment. Universal has unleashed the purse strings for production and talent, providing lavish backgrounds and a supporting cast including Leo Carrilo, Lon Chaney, Andy Devine, Henry Armetta, Walter Catlett and Martha O’Driscoll. The associate feature is “Undercover Man,” one of Clarence E. Mulford’s popular Hopalong Cassidy stories, with Bill Boyd in his usual role as Hoppy. Andy Clyde and Chris Pin Martin are his supporting stars. The serial will also screen at evening sessions.
