MILK FROM TIMARU.

ARRANGEMENT CONFIRMED SLIGHT HITCH LAST WEEK. Confirmation of the temporary arrangement under which milk is being brought from Timaru for consumption in Ashburton was contained in a letter from the Central Milk Council, received by the Borough Council last evening. The arrangement was that providing the council accepted a measure of responsibility from the consumers’ point of view the Milk Marketing Division would allow milk to be railed (o Ashburton and sold to vendors at the Ashburton Railway Station at 9d less than the retail price of Is 3d a gallon, the department to meet any charges that were not covered by that price. The Mayor said to-day that athough any further shortage was unlikely, it was unsatisfactory to have to go outside the county to supply the borough. The transport of milk from Timaru by rail had been satisfactory so far, except for a slight hitch last week, when the milk was not left on the passenger station as usual and was found about three hours later still standing in trucks in the goods sheds.
