AIRMEN ENTERTAINED.
There was a large gathering of residents of Eiffeltou, Waterton and Flemington districts in the Waterton Hall to honour Leading Aircraftman Derek Read. Mr G. E. Blee (chairman of the Longbeach Soldiers’ Social Committee), who presided, in presenting the departing guest with a suitable gift, spoke of his many good qualities and of the high regard in which he and his parents were held throughout the district. Mr P. Sheehan, on behalf of the Eiffelton Tennis Club, made eulogistic references to the guest of honour. Mrs J. Cocks made a presentation of a parcel of comforts on behalf of the Eiffelton Soldiers’ Comforts Committee. Music for dancing was supplied by Dabourn’s orchestra, and Mr D. Ryan was Master of Ceremonies.
