THE WEATHER.
CHILLY AND OVERCAST. A bleak, cold morning followed a frost, of 9.8 degrees at Ashburton today. The sky cleared a little before mid-day, but was for the most part clouded during the day. There was a chilly southerly breeze. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 44,9 and 29.9 degrees, compared with 64.2 and 31.3 on Sunday. The barometer reading to-day remained the same as yesterday, 30.38 inches. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Tilts Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement, regarding the weather: — General situation: An intense anticyclone is south of Southland. Pressure is still low to the east. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Moderate south-westerly winds tendi ing north-easterly to-morrow. Some scattered coastal drizzle about and north of Banks Peninsula, otherwise fair. Temperatures cold with frosts. Further outlook: Mainly fair.
