NEW BRITISH ARMY.

SOUTH-EAST ASIA COMMAND. (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) BOMBAY, June 1. A new British Army knoAvn as the 12th Army has been formed by the South-east Asia Command, states the correspondent of the Associated Press. It will be commanded by LieutenantGeneral Sir Montagu Stopford, who led the famous 33rd Indian Corps in its drive south from Koliima to Mandalay. The formation of the 12th Army was made possible by the release of additional resources from Europe. It is another step in the reorganisation of the South-east Asia Command in preparation for a concentrated offensive against Japan. It is a further sign of Britain’s determination to throw her maximum resources into the Far Eastern war.
