LOOKING BACK.
FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” June 1, 1895). School Concert —On Thursday evening a concert in aid of the school prize fund was Held in the Ruapuna School Room, which must have given every satisfaction to the master, Mr H. Rayner, and those who so ably assisted him in getting it up. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr F. S. Cordeux) presided. The house was packed to the door> many having to stand. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” June 1, 1920). Teacher Honoured—Mr J. B. Borthwick, the retiring headmaster at Hampstead School, * was farewelled by teachers and scholars on Friday afternoon. Aliss Ivy Bright, one of the senior pupils, presented Mr Borthwick with a handsome travelling rug, silk scarf, and silk handkerchief, accompanying the gift with the best wishes of teachers and pupils. Mr Borthwick made suitable acknowledgment and shook hands with every child in the school.
