BROWN TROUT OVA.

SOUTH CANTERBURY REQUEST DECISION OP ASHBURTON Permission to obtain brown trout ova from Lake Clearwater was sought by the South Canterbury Society in a letter received by the Council of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society at a meeting on Wednesday evening. It was decided, in view of the heavy stripping—at the lake for the Ashburton Society's own requirements, that it w r ould not be advisable to further deplete natural stocks. The Society would have no objection, however, to the ova being obtained from Lake Heron. On receipt of a letter from the South Canterbury Society pointing out that the closing date for salmon fishing was April 20 in its district and May 15 in the Ashburton district, it was decided to suggest to the South Canterbury Society that it amend its j regulations to bring its closing date to ! that of the Ashburton and North Can-1 terbury Societies. The appointment of a chairman was; held over until the next meeting. Mr j J. Donn was appointed to fill the vae-j ancy on the Council.

It was decided to hold over for consideration at the next meeting recommendations of the Council passed at the annual general meeting. It was resolved to invest £IOO in the Victory Yar Loan. There were present Messrs A. J. Millichamp (chairman), A. Cates, E. R. Easterbrook. G. Read and J. Palmer.
