POSITION CRITICAL.
RAILWAY COAL SUPPLIES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 30. The coal position of the New Zealand railways, in both the North and South Islands, is reported as very critical. Shipping prospects are. uncertain at the moment, but if conditions do not improve soon it may be necessary to reintroduce cuts in North Island railway passenger services. .The Union Steam Ship Company advises that two coal vessels left Westport at midday to-day, one for Wellington, and one for New Plymouth. The State Coal Depot and other coal dealers state that there is little immediate anxiety regarding household coal supplies in Wellington.
