WOUNDED RETURN.
(Rec. 11.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Men wounded in ships of the Royal Navy during the battle of Okinawa readied Sydney late yesterday, after having left the staging base at a Pacific centre on Tuesday morning. The wounded men included two New Zealanders. They had been flown more than 2000 miles in two days. This was 'the first air evacuation plane to arrive under the system which will enable naval wounded to be brought quickly to Australia for treatment. The crew of the R.A.F. Transport Command flew the men in a Douglas aircraft converted for ambulance use. The party consisted of eight stretcher cases and 12 walking cases. The two New Zealanders were among the walking cases.
