IN COLD BLOOD

MURDER OF BRITISH SOLDIERS. ATROCITY BY GERMANS. ONE ESCAPES BY FEIGNING DEATH. (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 9.40 a.tn.) LONDON, April 11. At dawn to-day a German party in the little, town of Rethern. 30 miles south-east, of Bremen, murdered 15 British soldiers, in cold blood, says the Exchange Telegraph correspondent. The only British witness was Private Ivor Parry, of Monmouthshire. Lying in a ditch and feigning death he watched his comrades taken from a burning house, lined up against a wall and shot with a. captured Sten gun. He heard his comrades'’ screams as they were sprayed with bullets. He saw the murderers turn away and lau^li. A German then walked to the ditch and believing that Parry was dead, kicked him.

The atrocity occurred when the Germans counter-attacked. A party of Britishers held a house on the outskirts of Rethe,m until the Germans fired tracers into the building, which was set on fire.
