THE WINTER SHOW

FINAL AWARDS FOR DOGS. DIFFICULT TASK FOR JUDGES. A difficult task faced the judge in the dog section (Mr G. R. Lacey, of Palmerston North) at the Fanciers’ Society’s winter show on Saturday, so numerous were the entries and so high the general standard of the dog exhibited. In the parades for the grand challenge stakes and the best dog in the show the contestants aroused much admiration aiflong the large attendance of spectators. Commenting on the entries, Mr Lacey said that the best dog in the show, a cocker spaniel bitch exhibited by J. Lightfoot, was outstanding. The best animal of opposite sex, a Pekingese shown by Mrs C. L. Ridgen, was also an excellent example of its type. . “A section in which quality was particularly good was that of the Irish Setters,” said Mr Lacey. ‘‘The winning animals were as good as any I have seen in the North Island. Terriers, Alsations and Labradors were of good quality generally.” In view of the heavy entries it speaks eloquently for the work of the committee which organised the show that judging was carried out well up to schedule.

A feature of the afternoon was the children’s pet parade, judged by Mr S. P. Taylor. Most competitors exhibited dogs, but one or two had cats and one showed a bantam. Unfortunately no record of the placed competitors was kept hut every entrant received a gift. Further Results.
