HOLDING OUT AT CHERBOURG (Rec. 2.5 p.m.) LONDON, June IS. The German NeAVs Agency stated that the High Command provided the fortress area of Cherbourg with sufficient troops and equipment and other weapons to enable the Germans to hold out, - Elements of two and possibly three German divisions are believed to be cut off in the northern part of Cherbourg Peninsula, says the Exchange Telegraph correspondent at Army headquarters in France. In the last 36 hours the enemy has been trying to save Avliat he could and remoA r e all the troops possible from the northern tip, but it is not knoAvn here just Avliat he managed to AVitlidraAV before the Allies reached the Avest coast in strength. The Aveatlier, hOAvever, has been ideal for the air forces attacking moving columns of troops and material so the Germans must have been badly mauled.
