FIRE PREVENTION.

PUBLIC MEETING AT WILLOWBY. A public meeting, to discuss prevention and arrange procedure in the event of an outbreak of grass fires at Willowby was held in the Willowby schoolroom, Mr R. S. Chapman presiding. There was a good representative attendance of farmers, considerably more than last year when a similar meeting was called. The County Engineer (Mr H. A. Vezey) and the riding representative on the County Council (Mr S. P. Taylor) instructed the gathering on the use of the County fire-fighting apparatus. Three committees, representing three danger areas, were set up, the duty of each being to become familiar with the location of crops and pastures, to locate water, and ascertain the ploughing of fire breaks in dangerous areas so as to be able to act promptly in case of fire.
