ASHBURTON WINS CLOSE GAME. MATCH AGAINST FAIRFIELD. The best cricket match seen at the Ashburton Domain for a long time was played on Saturday between Ashburton arid Fairfield. It was a very close game, Ashburton winning by 11 runs with only five minutes to go. Oddly enough, the highest scorer by a long way crime from the Fairfield eleven, but; only two of his companions managed to reach double figures, the clever bowling of J. S. Weeks (six for 16) and P. Zouch (four for 65) being too much for them. This is not the first tiriie that these two bowlers have pulled a game out of the fire for Ashburtbri.

Ashburton batted last, W. OWen and J. Doig being the opening pair. Owen was bowled by D. Johnston for nine, but Doig remained at the wicket long enough to make Ashburton’s highest score (45 runs) before being caught by C. Price off L. Whinliam. The next highest scorers were W.
