JAPANESE CAPTURE OF TOWN. ENEMY SUFFERS LOSSES (Ree. 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 17. The Japanese have captured Lihsien. The Chinese garrison fought bravely against overwhelming odds both inside and outside the city, inflicting losses on the enemy, says the Associated Press. The Japanese strongly reinforced their troops in the vicinity of Ichang and have driven 80 miles southwards. Many casualties have been suffered by both sides. The Chinese successfully attacked Japanese strongholds north-west of Hankow, cutting enemy communications at several points.
A communique issued by Lieuten-ant-General J. L. Stillwell (the American Commander in Chief) reports that Liberators bombed shipping in the Kowloon docks yesterday, scoring many hits, Mitchells bombed shipping at Fort Bayrd, on the Kwng-Chown peninsula. The Chinese penetrated the Japanese lines at many points on the Yangtse front, advancing to the outskirts of Ichang, where severe fighting is in progress, says the Associated Press, The Chinese recaptured Hokow. The Japanese occupied Shihmen. The Chinese attacked Japanese at Sinvang, dislocating the Japanese communications with many places nearby.
