FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” Nov. 16, 1893). Slight Mishap—Owing to an accident with our elevator this morning, a whole forme of our type was smashed, and the whole energies of the staff have been devoted to-day to making good the damage. Nobody was hurt, the only sufferers being our readers who will be short of some reading matter they otherwise would have had.

Influenza Epidemic—The effect of the influenza epidemic upon the commercial life of Ashburton was felt to-day, and several shops Tver© unable to be opened this morning. Seventy soldiers are dead at Christchurch/ There have been eight deaths from influenza at the Dunedin Hospital to date.
