SCIENTISTS CARRY ON.
Although some of the most promising of Russia’s younger scientists have lost their lives in battle, work lias been continuously carried on, even in cities under siege, states the latest bulletin of the Auckland Astronomical Society.
During the siege of Leningrad, although many research institutes were evacuated, 16 members of (lie Astronomical Institute carried on with their observations and succeeded in producing a new series of almanacs for pilots, navigators and geodetic workers. Upon completion, the plates were flown to Moscow for printing.
Among the younger astronomers believed to have lost their lives in action is L. A. Kulik, the explorer of the great Siberian meteorite which laid waste vast tracks of forest country when it struck the earth.
