SYDNEY’S PROBLEM.
, CAR STRIPPING INCREASES. SYDNEY, September 22. Car stripping in Sydney i« fast increasing. Wheels, tyres, and rims worth hundreds of pounds are being stolen every week. Last week seven cars left unattended were driven off and stripped before being abandoned in suburbs. Tyres are being sold oil the black market for as much as £2O each. “Car stripping will grow even more when the demand increases for spare parts which have been frozen to help war needs,” the chief of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (Superintendent Keogh) said when interviewed. “The police see the time not. far distant when new and old cars will be stolen to be broken up for spare parts.” Superintendent Keogh again appealed to owners not to leave cars unattended in streets. “Hundreds of car owners are inviting car strippers to operate,” be said. “Many police have to be employed on car thefts when their services are required urgently for more serious crimes. “On a tour of inspection I have made of the city and suburbs-1 have seen hundreds of cars left in streets.”
