LABOUR VICTORY.
COMMUNIST CONGRATULATIONS. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct.. 11. A resolution passed at the annual conference of the Wellington district of the Communist Party expresses warmest congratulations to the Government on its re-election, in which it sees an endorsement of the Government’s policy of mobilising the entire resources of the Dominion for the defeat of the Axis Powers, and also an endorsement of progressive legislation in social affairs.
Dealing with the war, the party’s report presented to the conference recognised that the victories gained by the Allied nations, particularly (he Red Army, had brought victory in sight. The report added: "The invasion of Italy while of considerable military and political importance, is nevertheless no substitute for a second front in Europe, which Allied strategy recognises as essential to the defeat of Hitler.”
