KNITTED COMFORTS.

DISTRIBUTION TO AIRMEN. INCREASED OUTPUT WANTED. .. . / A distribution of woollen comforts knitted by the Ashburton Branch of Air Force Relations —the fifth since its establishment—-was made at the Air Force station at Ashburton yesterday. The distribution was made by the Patriotic Wool Controller for Mid-Canterbury (Mrs F. Curtis), the wife of the Commanding Officer of the station (Mrs S. L. Gilkinson), the Ashburton Air Force Relations Officer (Mrs S. Turner) and the convener of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary Knitting Circle (Mrs McNicol). Air Force Relations, Ashburton, have been requested by headquarters to make every effort to increase the output of knitted goods during the next three months. With, the approaching winter in the United Kingdom greatly increased stocks of knitted garments must be sent to London for NeAV Zealand personnel to receive replenishments. Every type of knitted garment, from scarves to pullovers, is required. Wool is issued free of charge and knitters take it home and knit it to the required pattern. In addition to the replenishment of supplies for New Zealand air’ personnel serving overseas, all have to be “fitted up” by Air Force Relations before they leave. Every woman who can manage to find or make time to knit one or more garments is, therefore, urgently required to join the work and thus, to a small extent, take part in the great air offensive..
