TENNIS.

METHVEN SEASON OPENED. The Methven Tennis Club opened the season on Saturday in fine weather. There was only a moderate at- j tendance. After Mrs White had played the first ball the president (Mr D. Watson) declared the season open. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the lady members of the club. THE BARING SQUARE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Baring Square Methodist Tennis Club was held on Saturday, evening the Rev. R. B. Gosnell presiding. The report showed that last season had been very successful. The financial statement showed a substantial credit balance. It was decided to make a donation to the trust funds of the Church. A vote of thanks to Mr C. F. Horrill for his work an the property of the club was carried by acclamation.
