RED CROSS FUNDS.

METHVEN’S SUCCESSFUL EFFORT. A most successful effort to assist the funds of the Methven sub-Brancli of the Red Cross Society was made last week, when a bazaar Avas held in. the Methven Toavii Hall followed by a concert on Thursday and Friday evenings. As a result over £2OO was raised. The bazaar was opened by the Chairman of the Ashburton County Council (Mr C. A. Campion). The stallholders were: Sweets, Methven V.A.D.’s; plants, Mesdames Cotterill and McAnulty; produce, Mesdames L. L. Richards, E. D. Thomas, R. F. Smith and B. Maw; jumble, Mesdames J. F. Stone, A. Watson; toys, Mesdames Stf\ r en and Little; cakes, Mesdames Jessep, Milne, Renai, McKinnon, Wilson and Rawiinson, and Miss M. Fleming; sewing, Mesdames Guthrie, Thomson, Crooks, May, S. Smith, Fitzgibbon, J. Smith and Adams; afternoon tea, Mesdames Souness, Mclntosh, Breach, Holmes, Shearer, Heasley, Hepburn, McDonald and Lochhead; ice cream, Miss D. Adams and Mrs Ayers. The concerts on both Thursday and Friday were largely attended and e\ r ery item was well received. * The programme contained an opening item by the Pipe Band; tAVO humorous elocutionary items by Mrs' J. Tumaru, piano accordion solo by Mr W. Stevens; play by Women’s Institute; song and dance by Miss Pauline McKendry; play, “Do it Now,” by District High School Pupils; chorus by Methven Convent School; play by the Drama Circle; song in character, “Waltzing Matilda,” Women’s Division; Maori songs by Linen Flax Chorus; popular songs by V.A.D.’s.
