DATE OF ELECTION.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 25. ANNOUNCEMENT BY PREMIER. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 2S. An announcement that the General Election will be held on Septembei' 25, a Saturday, was made in the House of Representatives to-day by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), who said that he had endeavoured to arrange for an earlier date; but because of the extended scope of the electorate on this occasion—it extended practically round the world —that was not possible. The dissolution of Parliament, he said, would take place on August 28, or earlier if the business of the House was completed before them. The issue of the writs would take place on August 30, which would give the longest possible period between the issue of the writs and the closing of nominations on September 8 and also the longest period between the closing of nominations and polling day. From the issue of the writs and the closing of the rolls to polling day would be 26 days.
