CLEARING SALES.
MARKED INCREASE IN NUMBER. TRACTORS BRING HIGH PRICES. There has boon a marked, increase in the number of clearing sales hold in Mid-Canterbury lately. In spite of rationing of motor fuel, there is little demand for horses. Although occasionally high prices have been realised, average prices are low. An extreme case is the sale of three horses, in good condition, at 13s 4d at a recent clearing sale. On the other hand, stock firms report that tractors command high prices at clearing sales. For example, two recently brought £BBO and £690 each. Prices for implements are also soaring. The recent embargo on tho sale oi pork has little effect in this district. The demand for land is good, and many farms are changing hands.
