THE WEATHER.

SUN BREAKS THROUGH CLOUDS. After four overcast clays I the. sun broke through the clouds to-day at Ashburton, and a. change of wind to the north-west came about'. Yesterday was cool, with misty rain in the forenoon, two points being recorded at the Domain weather station. Maximum and minimum temperatures were 57.4 and 48.4 degrees, comparcel with 53 and 46.4 degrees the previous day. Another drop on the. barometer was shown to-day, the reading being 30.04 inches, against 30.11 inches yesterday. Figures available from the Borough Council show that the total rainfall at Ashburton for the nine months ended September 30 was 17.24 inches, as against 21.23 inches for the corresponding period last year. The wettest and dryest months of the .period this year were May and April, with 5.29 and .49 inches respectively. For last year they were August, with 8.02, and February, with .78 inches. Up to the end of September this year there have been 1367.3 hours of sunshine, compared with 1362.26 last year. The extremes for this, year were: January, with 194.1, and May with 96.7.
