UPROAR IN HOUSE
LADS IN AUSTRALIAN ARMY. REPORTED IN NEW GUINEA. DEMAND FOR THEIR RETURN. (Rec. 1 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. There was an uproar in the House of Representatives when members cpiestioned the Minister of the Army (Mr D. M. Forde) on the presence of boys 18 years of age in the Australian forces in New Guinea. Mr Forde replied that the Command-er-in-Chief had issued instruction that no member of the Army under the age of 20 or who had less than . six months’ training should be sent to the forward area. If it could be shown that this instruction had been disregraded ip any particular case lie would have it investigated. A member answered: “I will show you ‘hundreds of dozens’ of them.” A general demand was made that the boys allegedly with the forces in New Guinea should be immediately returned to Australia.
