THE FIRE BRIGADE.
COMBINED PRACTICE TO-NIGHT. t A practice of the fire brigade, together with the volunteer auxiliary, will he held this evening. * when five fire posts, all controlled from the central station, will be in operation. The annual inspection of the brigade by the Borough Council will take place on November 11. * When the monthly meeting of the brigade was held last evening a letter of appreciation of the brigade’s services in extinguishing a fire on Iris property was received from Mr S. G. Macfarlane. The annual remuneration of £4 per member was paid, and advice was received from tlie Borough Coupeil to the effect that in future the amount ! payable would be £5 per . member. Fireman J. Smith was presented with a three years’ service certificate. _ ■ It was deckled to lodge applications for two carbon tetrachloride extinguishers for the fire engines. Improvements in the water supply l for certain portions of Allenton are now under consideration.
