CRICKET.
NO JUNIOR COMPETITION. In view of the difficult position obtaining in regard to transport, it was decided by the Ashburton Cricket Association last evening that no junior competition be held this year. It was decided to open the senior competition on October 24,/and to endeavour to arrange friendly matches in the meantime. There are eight entrants for the competition . The Association also decided to try to»arrange a representative match with the Christchurch association on Labour Day, October 266, but the secretary (Mr G. V. Furby) was notified by telephone this morning that the military authorities would be unable to let the Army players away on. that date, and the match has accordingly been abandoned. ’ The following draw and postponement committee was appointed last evening: Messrs R. H. Biggar, S. Weeks and F'urbv.
