CARELESS CRITICS
SERVING HITLER’S CAUSE, ADVICE TO LABOUR CONFERENCE THERE SHOULD BE NO STRIKES. (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright). (Rec. 11.25 a.m.) TORONTO, Oct. 7. Car'eless criticism does not advance our cause but serves Hitler's, the Undersecretary of War (Mr Pattersou) told the Labour Convention. He added: “Ijiven though false storibs are eventually disproved they harmfully shake the soldiers’ confidence in the effectiveness of their weapons. In the days ahead Hitler will redouble his efforts to divide the United Nations, using rumour-mongers for spreading stories in America against Britain and vice versa. Instead of taking such stories seriously we should remember the heroic deeds of our Allies.”
Mr Patterson pointed out that armament production required suspension of many peace-time standards, hours of labour and conditions. He said that strikes were now few and far between, but there should be none. When the people grasped the fullest significance of war therd would be none.
