TOMATOES IN BRITAIN.
ORDERLY DISTRIBUTION PLANNED. LONDON, Oct. 6. The British Ministry of Food plans this season k;o ensure the orderly distribution of 60,000 tons of tomatoes, according to the Minister (Baron Wool ton). He said that 102,000 shops had received fairly regular supplies. Even in the Orkney and Shetland Islands an average of 3j|lb a head had •'been distributed. The scheme had been worked voluntarily, and conditional selling and black marketing had faded out. It was the first attempt made in Britain or any other country to control the distribution of a highly perishable crbp.—British Official Wireless.
