GERMAN DEMANDS.
THE TENSION IN DENMARK. FOUR MAJOR REQUIREMENTS. LONDON, October 6. The German demands on Denmark, which are believed to have led to the present tension, are: (1) The construction of a military highway through Jutland; (2) more drastic measures against sabotage; (3) German control of the Danish police; (4) German officials to hold key positions in the Ministry of Justice. The demands were submitted when the German Minister (Von Renthe-Fink) returned to Copenhagen after a visit to Berlin ill September. The Danes are waiting tensely to see whether the Danish Nazi Free Corps will return to the Russian front next Wednesday when their leave ends. It is believed that the corps may be employed in establishing a political regime similar to the one in Norway, which, like Denmark, has been singled out for incorporation in the Germanic federation. The departure of the mem-' bers of the corps on Monday will bo interpreted as meaning that the hour has not yet arrived for the Danish Nazi leader (Clausen) to act. However, neutral opinion in Stockholm is that Hitler considers the time has come for the creation of a Germanic federation as a. nucleus of the new Europe.
According to evidence received in London, the Germans arranged the return to Denmark of. the Free Corps, knowing it would be- resented, and are planning to use this resentment as an excuse for further repressive measures.
King Christian has flatly “turneddown” a further demand, for anti•Jewisli legislation. King Christian, on the contrary, attended a special celebration in the Copenhagen synagogue, thus greatly annoying the Germans.
