SHEARERS NEEDED.

‘ an AUCKLAND COMPLAINT. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 7. The position on sheep farms is so acute that unless rapid action is taken by the Government, the wool industry is likely to face a major crisis this season, said a number of Auckland men prominently connected with the industry. The new season’s wool which has arrived in Auckland is well below the usual quality, and, while the recent wet weather is one factor, the principal cause is said to be a shortage of shearers. If the clip is to- be handled expeditiously, it is contended that it will be necessary to release from military camps all hearers for as long as possible.

“We are having the greatest difficulty, in getting men released by appeal boards,” said a farming spokesman. “The situation is complicated by the fact that many shearers have gone overseas.” The spokesman added that on one North Auckland holding only one man was available to shear 60,000 sheep, while his neighbours were in almost &s difficult a position.
