RATION-BOOKS.

NEW ISSUE ON MONDAY WEEK. New ration books for the second period to start on November 1 will be issued from. Monday, October 19. Possession of the current rationing books will form the basis of issue, the holder to apply by writing his name (in block letters and ink) on the counterfoil of the “0” sheet in the current hook. The counterfoil only should be removed, as the sheet of “0” coupons will be used later for clothing coupons.

Two classes of books will be, issued, one indexed “C” for children under 10 on January 1, 1943, and the other for adults and children over 10 on that date.

Old ration books have to be produced with the “O” counterfoil when application for new books is made. The old books will be returned to the holder as the “M” coupons will be valid till tlio end of May, 1943, and the “0” coupons will also be valid in 1943. Even - .after all “M” and “O” coupons are expended, holders will have to retain the old books as particulars may be recorded in them which may subsequently bo required by the rationing officers. Sugar and tea coupons left in the old books will not he valid after October'S!.

An inquiry at the Ashburton Post Office revealed that no tea coupons are provided in the now books for children under 10 years of age. There is also no provision for the issue of tea coupons to children who attain the ago of 10 after January 1 next. Such children will not receive tea coupons until the next issue of ration bdfoks toAvard the end of 1943.

Tea and sugar permits for staffs or shops, offices, factories and fire-watch-ing personnel will be used for a period of six months as from November 1. It is stressed that the work of issuing the new hooks -will be greatly facilitated if the public obserA'e the correct procedure of application.
