LOOKING BACK.
FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” April 21, 1892) Methodist Sunday School.—The 17th anniversary of the Primitive Methodist Sunday School was brought to a close on Monday evening. On Good Friday a picnic was held at Elgin in a field kindly lent for the occasion by Mr John Cochrane. About 200 scholars' and friends availed themselves of the opportunity of a day’s enjoyment. On Sunday, anniversary sermons were preached by Rev. John Dawson, of Christchurch. On Monday the tea meeting was held when over two hundred people sat down to the good things provided. The meeting after tea was presided over by Mr Watkin, in his usual homely and sunny manner and addresses were given by Miss Cruickshank, Mr Vf. T. Lill, Rev. J. J. Peiidray and by the circuit minister, the Rev. John Cocker. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (Fiom the “Guardian,” April 21, 1917) St. Stephen’s Church.—The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Stephen’s Church was held last evening, the Rev. H. N. Wright presiding. The election of officers resulted Church wardens, Messrs D. Wood and C. W. Nicoll; vestry, Messrs A. McClure, F .W. Watt, W. N. Kerr, F. Pritchard, C. W. Allard, H. Gates, C. W. Norton, E. Smith, J. T. Osman and L. Brady; auditor, Mr W. H. Woods.
