JAPANESE WARSHIPS STRUCK. TRANSPORTS ALSO BOMBED. EAST INDIES. PLANES ACTIVE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 1.45 p.m.) BATAVIA, Jan. 23. Netherlands Ehst Indies bombers and fighters launched a determined attack on a concentration of Japanese ships in the middle of the Macassar Straits. Direct hits by heavy bombs were scored on a. big warship, a heavy ciUiiser, a light cruiser and a big transport, and during dive-bombing attacks direct hits by small bombs were scored on a destroyer, two big and one small transport. The Dutch planes suffered no losses.
