FIFTY YEARS’ SYNE. (From the ‘'Guardian,” .Tan. 24,' 1592). Proposed Sale of Mozambique—Lisbon : The Premier’s suggestion that Portugal should sell Mozambique, in order to reduce the national debt, has been well received. European Situation—St. Peterburg: The Directors of the Warsaw railway and the Government are meeting secretly to discuss the propriety or mobilising, in order to expedite the transfer of Poles eastwards. The medical students at Kieff have been ordered to enlist.
United States and Chile—" Washington : It is reported that the United States Government has sent an ultimatum to Chile terminating diplomatic relations unless the circular issued to the Chilian Legations is withdrawn. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” Jan. 24, 1917). Loweliffe Mail Service—A deputation appointed by the Loweliffe branch ot the Farmers’ Union, consisting ot Messrs J. Brown, D. Shaw and W. Jewall waited on -Mr W. Nosworthy, M.P., on Wednesday, in the Hinds Hall, to discuss the question of a daily mail service. Messrs Fleming ana Lister were also present representing Lismore, and Messrs Rogers, Price, and Ford from Loweliffe. Mr J. Brown, chairman of the Loweliffe Farmers' Union, said that for more than 20 years Loweliffe and Lismore had been served with a tri-weekly mail service. During that time the population of the districts had increased and closer settlement establishfd owing to the cutting up of estates. The present service was altogether inadequate to the needs of the farmers.
