CONTROL OF E.P.S.
A RESIGNATION WITHDRAWN. (P.A.) INVER CAT? GILL, Jan. 22. Complete confidence in Mr H. J. Macalister as controller of the Invercargill Emergency Precautions Services was expressed by the Invercargill City Council at a special emergency meeting held at noon to-day to consider liis resignation. The council also unanimously decided to ask Mr Macalister to reconsider his resignation. Mr 'Macalister announced this evening that he had decided to withdraw his resignation and carry on as Chief Controller. To-day an earlier meeting of controllers and deputy-controllers of the Emergency Precautions Services was held, and a resolution adopted expressing surprise at the City Council’s resolution (which said that too much control was vested in persons not councillors) and adding that the present efficiency of the scheme is to a large extent the result of the action taken by Mr Macalister to co-ordinate the activities of the scheme as a whole. Notice of motion has been given to rescind the resolution passed by the council on Tuesday night.
