THE WAR EFFORT.
MR HOLLAND’S MEMORANDUM. (‘P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 20. “I shall be very pleased to have Mr Holland’s Memorandum,” said the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. PFraser), commenting, on a Press Association report from Auckland that the Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) was collecting evidence about dissatisfaction about the country’s war effort. “There are no doubt many defects, disappointments, and discontent inseparable from the country transforming itself from a peace to a war organisation, and Mr Holland’s catalogue may be illuminating and helpful, particularly if it is, as it no doubt will he, accompanied with well-thought-out suggestions for remedies and improvements.
“I can assure him that, as is customary, the W’ar Cabinet and the Government will gladly examine any reasonable proposals to improve ouf war effort and readily accept any practical ones. Indeed, I propose to invite Mr Holland to consultation and discussion with the War Cabinet in regard to any representations he may make relating to our war effort.”
