TRAP SHOOTING.

THE C.A.C. MATCH METHVEN WINS BY TWO POINTS By a margin of two points Methven Gun Club team beat the Christchurch No. 1 team with Ellesmere Club team (seven points behind) third in the am nual teams match for trophies presented by the Colonial Ammunition Company. The match, which is open to all affilicated clubs in North Canterbury, was held on the Methven Club’s grounds on Saturday afternoon. Six teams of seven men, representative of Methven, Christchurch (2), Ellesmere, Rangiora, and Mead—Te Perita, entered. There was a complete absence of wind, the only handicap being the strong sunlight in the earlier period. The match provided many thrills at various stages.

Seven men made possibles, these being I. G. Watkins (Rangiora), R. Baker and A. N. Turner (Christchurch',No. 1), T. S. Harrison, L. C. Anderson, and J. S. McHugh (Methven), and T. Gordon (Ellesmere). They divided the optional sweepstake. An unavoidable delay due to a breakdown in the automatic trap in the early stages spoilt the afternoon to a slight extent but in spite of the upset the scores were highly creditable.

Mr W. R, Henry, in presenting the trophies, on behalf of the donors , congratulated the local club on its win and handed the trophy to S. H. Anderson (president). Mr Henry, in presenting Christchurch No. 1 with the second trophy, said their performance was quite a creditable one. T. Goi* 1 - don (Ellesmere) was handed the third

trophy. Mr Henry also commented favourably on the merit of the MeadTe Perita team which took part for the first time. It would generally be agreed, Mr Henry said, that shooters were under a debt of gratitude to the Colonial Ammunition Company for providing them with ammunition while its works were still busier than ever with contract work for munitions of a more serious character. Shooters would have been unable to carry on. any shooting if they had had to depend on outside sources of supply. The shoot was opened by a five-bird match in which W. Quigley, S. H. Anderson, R. S. Taylor, E. Hammond, J. T. Corbitt, W. J. Roberson, F. L. Knowles, I. Mawson and L. W. Prosser broke the possible. They were the only ones of 20 shooters to complete their quota before the breakdown in the trap compelled the abandonment of the match.
