JUNIOR GRADE. A comfortable win on the first innings was obtained by High School in their match with Tinwald. Tinwakl were all out for 51 in their first strike. To this High School replied with 146 (A. Lewis not out 81, R. Purcell 18). A considerable improvement was shown by Tinwald in their second strike which produced 144 (R. Pearce 82). School had five wjckets down for 88 runs at the call of time. The best bowlers for Tinwald were W. Thomas three foi 19 and TV. Merrin five for 20, while for School 1. Hay took four for none and three for 80, and A. Green three for 10.

By 210 runs to 140, Lauriston defeated Fairfield at Fairton. Mackie with 109 runs (retired) and J. Motinsey 21, made the highest totals for Lauriston, while for Fairfield Johnson made 36 and Robertson 25. Connelly (Fairfield) took four wickets for 21 runs. CENTURY AT CHRiSTCHURCH. (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 19. Conditions were good when the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions started on Saturday and a fair standard of play was seen. Eleven teams are competing in the senior competition compared with 12 last year. One-day games are being played. The first century went to K. F. Al. TJttley, who made 105 (retired) in even time for West Christchurch against .Old Collegians, hitting eight fours and three sixes. Scores:— Old Boys 195 for 4 (Hadlee 74, F. B. Smith 51) beat West Old Boys' 178 for 9 declared (Movnihan 58, Escott 5 for 53). Sydenham .174 for 8 (Burgess 68) beat Lancaster Park 135 (Shaw 3 for 41). . , , West Christchurch 225 for 8 declared (Uttley 105 retired, Gregory 4-1 not out) drew with Old Collegians 204 for 7 (J. Saunders 71). East Christchurch 155 for 9 (Roberts 4 for 39) beat Riccarton 150 for 9 declared (Patrick 3 for 63). St. Albans 173 for 4 (O’Brien not out 76) beat Air Force 167 for 9 declared (Bezzant 52, Muleock 5 for 61, Smythe 3 for 25).
