LATE SPORTING.

THE TURF. THE CAULFIELD CUP RACE. (Rec. 12.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Commenting on tho Caulfield Cup, the Melbourne correspondent of the “Sydney Morning Herald” says that Velocity is an undoubted stayer, With the necessary speed to hold his position in a big field, and in addition lias courage and determination to fight out the finish. No. 1 barrier position was an important factor in Velocity’s success, just as it was a bit of a help in the success of Beaulivre last year. Velocity jumped away smartly and never left the rails. Beau Vite ran much below his best form. He was one of the last three as the field left the straight. He made up considerable ground on the outside of the field from the mile post, but was out of the race by the time the straight was reached. The “Daily Telegraph” says that Munro did not persevere when he knew Bean Vite had no chance of winning, and that explains why Beau Vite finished third to last. Beau Vite is still a favourite for the Melbourne Cup.
